Infiniti FX

The Infiniti FX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by the Nissan-owned Infiniti luxury vehicle brand since the 2003 model year. The FX replaced the QX4 as Infiniti's mid-size luxury-type SUV, although the QX4 was smaller than the FX. It was released at the same time as its competitors, the Porsche Cayenne and Volvo XC90. It shares the same FM platform as the rear-wheel drive Nissan 370Z, whereas the similarly sized Nissan Murano is based on the same D platform as the front-wheel drive Nissan Altima. The FX and QX56, whose platform is shared with the Nissan Armada, are not sold in Japan. The FX has been described as having the profile of a "giant scarab" or a "Bionic cheetah". Its designers sought what they called a "cool fusion" – the blending of a substantial SUV lower body with the sleek, elegant upper body more reminiscent of a classic sports car or sports GT.In addition, they sought to combine sports-car performance with SUV functionality. The FX is now in its second generation, since the 2009 model year FX35 and FX50.The nameplates FX35 and FX45 refer to the two available engines. The FX35 is available in two drivetrains, the RWD and the AWD, which are both fitted to a dual overhead cam 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 VQ35DE gasoline engine, with aluminum-alloy block and heads, electronically controlled “drive-by-wire” throttle system, and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons that makes use of the continuous variable valve timing which in part optimizes the opening of intake valves. This is also coupled with an electronically controlled super-wide ratio five-speed automatic with a manumatic shift mode that includes the option of sequentially selected manual gearshifts and downshift rev matching. The FX45 incorporates a 4.5-liter (4,494 cc) 32-valve V8 DOHC VK45DE gasoline engine with four valves per cylinder, microfinished camshafts with aluminum-alloy block and heads, low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons, titanium intake and exhaust valves, modular cylinder heads, microfinished crankshaft, lightweight pistons, super-silent single stage cam drive chain, and a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System that optimizes opening of intake valves.Total 2007 sales of the FX45 numbered just 1,598 units, about a tenth of the FX35s.The FX series was updated for 2006 with new options and standard features. The updates included an exterior facelift with new grille, bumper, wheel design and three new exterior colors, and inside a revised center console with new color screen. Many features previously optional were made standard, including the 300-watt Bose audio system, RearView Monitor, 7-inch color display, Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), leather seating surfaces with heated front seats, 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support and 8-way power passenger’s seat. The FX45 featured additional upgrades, including new 20-inch wheels, leather-appointed seats, a revised sport-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension with new dampers, a Bluetooth system, and the Premium Package became standard. The taillights on Sport Package equipped FX35 models and all FX45 models were changed from red to clear. The Infiniti FX was the first passenger vehicle to offer a lane departure warning system in the United States market. Infiniti's version uses a camera that watches the lane markings to alert everyone in the car via an audible buzzer that the driver is drifting unintentionally.

Infiniti M

The "M" nameplate has been used on various mid-luxury cars from the Infiniti luxury division of Nissan. The first iteration was the M30 Coupe/Convertible, which were rebadged JDM Nissan Leopard. After a long hiatus, the M nameplate was used for Infiniti's mid-luxury sedans (executive cars). First was the short-lived M45 sedan, a rebadged version of the Japanese-spec Nissan Gloria. The next generations, the M35/45 and M37/56/35h/30d, became the flagship of the Infiniti brand and are based on the JDM Nissan Fuga. The 2003 Infiniti M45 was based on the Y34-series Nissan Gloria, with styling almost identical to the Japanese-specification Gloria. In contrast to the Japanese models, which were available only with V6 engines, the M45 was powered by Nissan's VK45DE V8, producing 340 hp (254 kW) and 333 lb·ft (451 N·m) of torque, which it shared with the Infiniti's flagship Q45.
The vehicle was something of a stop-gap solution for Infiniti, providing them with a viable competitor for such cars as the Lexus GS, particularly the V8 GS400/430. When introduced in North America, it was using a Japanese design that was already several years old. Its styling was often criticized for being generic and homely.the other hand, it did allow Infiniti to expand the use of the 4.5L V8 that had been exclusive to the Q45, thus creating a better economy of scale to cope with that engine's development costs.

2011 Infiniti G37

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2012 Infiniti G37
what is currently known as the Infiniti G37 Sedan began life as the second-generation G35 Sedan back in 2007. Then, back in 2009, the car's 3.5-liter V6 was replaced by a more powerful 3.7-liter unit, resulting in a new name for the car.

Now, Infiniti has given the G37 Sedan a mid-cycle refresh, including changes to the front and rear fascias, as well as to the luxurious interior.

For the latest model the headlights have become more angular and less bulbous than the previous model -- a look that's almost reminiscent of the original G35 coupe lamps. The grille has also been adjusted, and new fog lamp clusters look decidedly well integrated.

The rear bumper was also reworked, though it will take a trained eye to notice the differences. More obvious is the new 17-inch wheel design, which is standard.

Stepping inside the latest model year will reveal new gauges with a white back theme, which can be complimented by your choice or a new aluminum finish, or a maple trim. The center console and dash also received some stylization changes, and the seven-inch touch-screen now gives users access to real-time traffic and weather via XM satellite.
INTERIOR
What our G37's gray cabin lacked in finishes, it made up for in materials quality. Padded surfaces run all the way down to foot level, with soft-touch areas in all the places your knees, elbows or hands will touch. There's even a cushioned cover over the cupholders. Optional maple wood trim replaces last year's African rosewood; it picks up fingerprints easily but, absent those, looks darker and richer than before. New this year are chrome runners along the gearshift — an upscale touch. Luxury aside, it's nice to see Infiniti kept some essential conveniences: The overhead console includes a sunglasses holder, and the sun visors have full extensions that meet the B-pillars. Despite their inclusion on cars half the price, those two features go missing on too many luxury competitors.

Most controls are high-quality, but one of our standing complaints remains: Buttons for the central dashboard screen, where the optional navigation system resides, are perched high up on the dash, out of easy reach. It's a shame, seeing as Infiniti has one of the better navigation setups on the market, with both touch-screen and physical controls for zooming in and out, scrolling the map and jumping to different menus. Updated for 2010, the display sports improved graphics and additional capabilities: weather reports, restaurant ratings and Bluetooth streaming audio. It had a few routing issues, however, which we detail in a navigation evaluation on KickingTires.

Leather seats are standard. The Sport Package adds sport seats with larger, power-adjustable side and cushion bolsters. Even with the bolsters relaxed all the way, many drivers will find the seats narrow and constrictive, particularly at their bottom cushions. What's more, I'm 5-foot-11 and could have used another inch or so of rearward seat travel so my legs could extend fully.

The backseat has enough knee room for adults, but the seat is too close to the floor, resulting in raised knees, and taller passengers will find headroom limited. That's par for the class; backseats are usually cramped in this segment. The trunk, on the other hand, is fairly large. At 13.5 cubic feet, it beats the 3 Series, Lexus IS and C-Class by half a cubic foot or more. Alas, Infiniti doesn't offer a folding rear seat to accommodate larger cargo, as BMW and Mercedes do. A small pass-through for skis is standard. (The G37 coupe has a single-piece folding rear seatback but only 7.4 cubic feet of trunk volume; the convertible has no folding seatback but, with the top up, 10.3 cubic feet.)

New elements introduced in 2010 for 2011 models include revised LCD instruments with a white color scheme for gauges. The optional Hi-Tech Package includes Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation with a 7.0-inch touch screen monitor and 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive, plus XM NavTraffic and NavWeather, streaming audio via Bluetooth and Zagat restaurant guide.

Standard features on G37 range from automatic climate controls to leather upholstery, driver's seat with eight-way power, keyless entry and starter, an audio kit with six speakers and AM/FM/CD, HID headlights and 17x7.5-inch aluminum wheels with 225/55 all-season tires.

EXTERIOR
The G’s platform features front wheels mounted way forward with the engine positioned so that its center of gravity falls behind the front axles. This placement results in a weight distribution biased slightly in favor of front wheels.

Add acceleration out of the curve and the near-perfect weight-balance become obvious, enabling the aggressive driver to carve one corner after another with keen confidence; which is the way we work it on serpentine Engineers Road, testing the limits of tire adhesion.

Steering, through a quick-to-respond rack and pinion mechanism, feels firm despite the assist from a vehicle-speed-sensitive power boost, while competent factory brakes on most models are upgraded on our six-speed test-car, with powerful 4-piston calipers up front delivering impressive stopping power.

All G37 models carry Infiniti's vehicle dynamic control (VDC) device, which automatically checks lateral skidding on slippery pavement.

The G37 Sport M6 Sedan employs a sport-tuned suspension, quicker steering gear, viscous limited-slip differential, larger 14-inch vented disc brakes with four-piston opposed front calipers and 18x7.5-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with summer performance tires (225/50 front and 245/45 rear). These items can also be has as a $2,100 option on automatic models.

ENGINE
Motivation for the 2011 G37 stems from an upgraded edition of Nissan's VQ-series dual-cam V6, keyed to an electronically controlled drive-by-wire throttle. It employs a high-tech valve controller, VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift), and revs all the way to 7600 rpm. At 7000 revolutions, peak power of 328-hp is made, with torque rising to 269 ft-lbs at 5200 rpm.

The G37 supports two transmissions, an incredibly quick shifting seven-speed electronically controlled automatic featuring downshift rev matching (DRM) and manual shift mode (via paddle shifters on the steering wheel), or a six-speed close-ratio manual stick planted on the center console.

Three of the four trim versions of G37 stock the automatic shifter. The three are labeled as a leather-lined base edition G37 sedan, the G37 Journey and the G37x AWD Sedan Sport. A version packing the manual transmission is the G37 Sport M6 Sedan.

Fuel economy for the powerful V6 is reasonably good, with a rating of 19/27-mpg (city/highway) for automatic RWD models and 18/25-mpg for AWD versions. Our manual transmission tester, while plenty of fun, delivers the worst fuel economy of the bunch at 17/25-mpg.
SAFETY
In crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the G37 sedan earned the top score, Good, in frontal and side-impact crashes. It also earned a Marginal rating in rear-impacts, despite having standard active head restraints. IIHS has yet to conduct its latest roof-crush tests on the G37. It also has yet to test the G37 coupe and convertible; because of the unique layout for each body style, the sedan's crash-test results don't apply to the other versions. Standard safety features on all G37s include an electronic stability system, antilock brakes and six airbags. Click here for a full list.

Reliability for the current generation has been good; it's downright excellent for the G37 coupe. The sedan starts in the low-$30,000s, which is competitive with the gaggle of Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes competition — albeit that's with their base six-cylinder engines, which the G37's V-6 handily stomps. It's nicely equipped for that price, with a standard automatic transmission, xenon headlights, leather upholstery, eight-way power front seats, single-zone automatic climate control, a CD stereo with an MP3 jack and keyless access with push-button start. Options include heated front seats, a moonroof, a navigation system, a backup camera, USB/iPod connectivity and an upgraded Bose stereo. Getting a six-speed manual requires moving up to the G37 Sport — which includes a sport-tuned suspension, bigger wheels and the aforementioned styling revisions — but a Sport Package with similar content is also available on the midlevel, automatic-equipped Journey trim. All-wheel drive is available on all but the base G37; the Anniversary trim essentially comes fully equipped.

The G37 coupe and convertible start around $36,000 and $44,000, respectively. Load up the G, and the sedan tops out north of $43,000. The coupe can exceed $50,000, and the convertible — the only variant to offer cooled seats — can top $55,000.

2011 Infiniti G25

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2012 Infiniti G25
When it comes to fast luxury sedans, the Infiniti G measures up to the four-doors from the established German brands. The Infiniti G is the smart, subversive choice in the market, the one that makes its statement with an edgy 3.7-liter V6 engine instead of just an oversize grille. So imagine our horror when we heard talk of a G sedan with a smaller, more sensible 2.5-liter V6 engine. Would this be a discount special, an Infiniti with generic ingredients instead of the real thing?

As much as we love screaming horsepower, we understand the need for affordable rides with sensible engines, even in the luxury realm. Enter the Infiniti G25 sedan, a new addition to the G family making its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The G25 will be identical to the G37 sedan in nearly every regard—same front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, same snappy styling, same competent chassis—but packs a less-powerful engine. It will be positioned as the entry-level Infiniti, providing a lower stepping stone into the brand.
INTERIOR
Base G25s are outfitted standard with Bluetooth, push-button start, keyless entry, leather upholstery, automatic climate control and an eight-way adjustable power driver seat. The $1,400 Journey package adds a rearview camera, automatic headlights, heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and USB iPod integration.

Navigation is not available on the G25, nor are the Premium package (Bose audio system), Technology package (intelligent cruise control, active headlamps) or Sport package (limited-slip differential, four-piston front brake calipers, 18-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension).

Material and assembly quality in the G25 are on par for the segment, which is to say, they're darn good. Certainly it gives up nothing to the 328i's well-built, if basic, cabin. Satin-finished "Shodo" aluminum trim strips surround the shifter and sweep from the doors into the dashboard. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is a nice touch and there are enough steering wheel controls that you'll rarely need to reach for the center stack.

Overall, the 2011 Infiniti G25 can be described as firm, but not harsh. The car feels solid and well constructed. Imperfections in the road surface are felt but prove not at all intrusive. Likewise, wind and road noise are present, but not so loud as to be bothersome.

Drivers of various sizes should easily find their optimal position thanks to well-shaped seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column (the instrument panel moves with the wheel, ensuring optimum visibility). Rear-seat accommodations are roomy, with just enough head- and legroom for the average adult, though the seat cushions are mounted a bit low.
EXTERIOR
The 2011 Infiniti G25's pleasantly familiar exterior combines with modern details that seem appropriate for a vehicle that touts its high-tech credentials. Wraparound headlights and a contoured grille are Infiniti hallmarks, as are the muscular bulges on the hood. Inside the cabin, the design is slightly more subdued and austere. The rounded dash and a good portion of other surfaces in the cabin are soft to the touch and well grained. Elements are tightly fitted and devoid of squeaks and creaks.
Who should consider this vehicle

Unless power and performance are primary concerns for your luxury sport sedan decision, the 2011 Infiniti G25 is an excellent choice. There's more than enough power for the average driver, in a well-mannered package. Plus, buyers can save some cash up front, as well as down the road in fuel economy compared to the Infiniti G37.

Seventeen-inch wheels and 225/55R17 Goodyear RS-A tires are standard on the G25. The front and rear fascias, which were revised across the G line in 2010, remain the same. In other words, without looking at the badging, it's unlikely the layman will be able to discern the difference between this and the G37.
ENGINE
The engine in question is a DOHC, 2.5-liter V-6 rated at 218 hp and 187 lb-ft of torque. A variant of Nissan’s VQ engine—which in 3.7-liter form powers the G37 and Nissan 370Z, among others—the 2.5-liter mill was previously found in the Chinese-market Infiniti EX25 and the Japanese M25. There are no official fuel-economy ratings yet, but Infiniti tells us to expect an increase of about 1 mpg over the G37 sedan’s 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway. That’s a pretty disappointing number for such a dramatic power loss, but perhaps not as devastating as the news that the only transmission choice is a seven-speed automatic.

The power ratings are far below the 328 hp and 269 lb-ft offered by the big-brother G37 sedan, and lag slightly behind the 230 hp and 200 lb-ft offered by the inline-six in the BMW 328i. Still, the numbers are close enough to take on the 328i, just as the G37 offers power on par with BMW’s turbocharged 335i.
Comfort

Overall, the 2011 Infiniti G25 can be described as firm, but not harsh. The car feels solid and well constructed. Imperfections in the road surface are felt but prove not at all intrusive. Likewise, wind and road noise are present, but not so loud as to be bothersome.

Drivers of various sizes should easily find their optimal position thanks to well-shaped seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column (the instrument panel moves with the wheel, ensuring optimum visibility). Rear-seat accommodations are roomy, with just enough head- and legroom for the average adult, though the seat cushions are mounted a bit low. reference:www.caranddriver.com,www.insideline.com,www.edmunds.com

2011 Infiniti FX50

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2012 Infiniti FX50
The all-new five-passenger SUV rides on a wheelbase that has been elongated by 1.4 inches, and the top-of-the line FX50 is powered by an all-new 5.0 liter V8 mated to a new seven-speed automatic transmission: a first for Infiniti.

The transmission can be shifted via steering column-mounted paddles, and downshift blip the throttle to match revs during spirited driving.
INTERIOR
There are many interior features available with the Infiniti FX50, including illuminated push button ignition, soft touch and leather interior, 25 cubic feet of luggage space, a 360 degree camera system for parking assistance, an audio and navigation systems interface with a variety of options, dual zone climate control for passenger and driver, power windows, locks, and moonroof, eight-way power driver's and passenger's seats, and a CD/DVD player, USB interface, and 9.3 GB music storage system to be used with the 11 speaker Bose surround sound system.

The cabin has a high dashboard. A ledge just below the windshield curls around to the window sills, and air-conditioning and stereo controls sit below an available navigation display. The leather seats can come with quilted center inserts. Power adjustments for the front seats are standard. Interior features include:

   * Standard reclining rear seat
   * Standard Bluetooth
   * Standard dual-zone climate control
   * Standard power liftgate
*Standard USB input for MP3 players
*Optional heated and cooled front seats
*Bose audio system with 2GB Music Box hard drive
EXTERIOR
The body style of the 2011 Infiniti FX50 is no great departure from other years, and is characterized by 21 inch alloy wheels, a smooth, flowing aerodynamic design unusual in SUVs of its class, aluminum roof rails, dual chrome exhaust pipes, and a large, imposing grille.

For vehicles of its class, the Infiniti FX50 has traditionally held up well to the test of time. Owners generally report no loss in performance or many major maintenance issues, and the FX50 tends to retain its resale value well.

The pros of purchasing the 2011 Infiniti FX50 include its winning combination of a powerful V8 engine with great handling, a distinctive style including comfortable, posh interior, and many safety and luxury options to choose from.

The cons of purchasing the 2011 Infiniti FX50 include its stiff ride, vibrations at redline, and a cargo capacity which leaves something to be desired.

Vehicles similar to the Infiniti FX50 include the BMW X6 and Porsche Cayenne S, both of which are similar in terms of size, handling, luxury options, and performance.

The FX's beady headlights and snout-nosed grille are at least as controversial as those elements on its predecessor if not more so. Along the side, functional air vents reduce the FX's lift, Infiniti says. Exterior features include:

    *Standard 20-inch alloy wheels
    *Available 21-inch alloy wheels
    *Standard bi-xenon headlights
*Optional adaptive suspension continuously reacts to changing road conditions
*Optional Rear Active Steer angles rear wheels slightly to enhance turning precision
ENGINE
The Infiniti FX50 provides a smooth ride for the most part, an impressive feat given the power of its engine, which can propel you rapidly on a moment's notice, going from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. The tight steering and great suspension means that on some winding roads, you may actually forget you are driving an SUV, since the FX50 handles like a car built much lower to the ground. The brakes provide a nice counterpoint to the power of the engine, offering consistently short stopping distances, even after repeated hard braking. For the most part, the FX50 runs quietly as well, although sometimes during highway driving the 21-inch tires can start to produce a noticeable noise, and there is some vibration if the engine is pushed to the point of redline.

The 5L, 32-valve V8 engine in the 2011 Infiniti FX50 can put out 390 hp at 6,500 rpm, and generates 369 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. This vehicle features intelligent all-wheel drive, and couples the V8 engine with an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic with adaptive shift control, as well as a manual shift mode with sequentially selectable manual gearshifts and downshift rev matching. Fuel economy is 14 mpg for city driving, and 20 mpg for highway driving.
SAFETY
Safety systems on the FX50 in both trims include Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution, as well as traction and stability systems. Optional is Intelligent Brake Assist for warning of a frontal collision and capable of automatic braking, Distance Control Assist (DCA) for keeping pre-set distances from the vehicle ahead in heavy traffic and a Lane Departure Warning/Lane Departure Prevention system, which helps keep the FX in its lane.

Standard comfort and convenience fare includes Infiniti's Intelligent Key entry and vehicle start system, as well as optional Intelligent Cruise Control (Full Speed Range) and Around View Monitor system.

Standard lighting includes High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights while LED taillights double as aerodynamic aids. All paints covering the FX's new, lighter body utilize Infiniti's Scratch Shield technology that uses sunlight to heat the clear coat and fill in any fine scratches it may have endured.

For those who need to carry a bit more when they venture into the wilderness, the all-wheel-drive version is rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds.  The 2011 faces stiff competition from the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Lexus RX 350 in the midsize luxury SUV segment.

Under the Hood
The FX35's 3.5-liter V-6 makes 303 hp and teams with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical features include:

    *Premium gas
    *Rear- or all-wheel drive
    *2,000-pound towing capacity (AWD)

SAFETY
The 2011 Infiniti FX35 is equipped with a suite of optional safety technologies, including an around-view monitor system, which utilizes several cameras for a bird's-eye view of the SUV's perimeter, and a lane departure prevention system.  Infiniti’s Distance Control Technology helps keep an adequate distance between you and the car in front of you while in cruise control.  Adaptive cruise control and a forward-warning system, which applies the brakes in the event of an impending collision, are optional.  Active head restraints, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side-curtain airbags for both rows, traction control, an electronic stability system, and four-wheel antilock disc brakes come standard.

Packed with high-tech safety features and entertainment options, the 2011 Infiniti FX35 SUV also impresses with its ample horsepower and agility.
